I’ve known Andrea for a long time. Her brother Alan is one of my best friends and I even shot Andrea’s senior portraits about 6 years ago–(one of my first seniors, actually)! Andrea and Brian are high school sweethearts and I am so happy for them—they are truly a perfect couple—they are best friends and exude life when they are in each other’s presence. This wedding day was full of so many emotions—excitement, humor, a few tears and an abundance of love. Congratulations you two! It was such a pleasure to be a part of this day! Can’t wait for our premier on Friday!
Aren’t they adorable? Sharon was such a dear to work with—super laid back and sweet as pie. I didn’t get the chance to know Sharon and Craig that well, (in fact, I met Craig on the wedding day) but I am looking forward to working with them this winter and will be posting more images when we do a post-engagement/wedding shoot. The wedding at the Larkspur in Vail was splendid, with perfect weather—great light, a great party and a killer band. I even ran into a few friends from high school—it’s true that it’s a small world, and I’m guessing that Sharon and Craig and I probably have more in common than we know at this point!
Congratulations you two!
Gratitude is the first word that comes to my mind as I blog this wedding—I’m so grateful that I get to do what I love in life which is make photographs and to still time—I’m also so grateful that I get to travel a lot while doing this and get to see the wedding world with fresh eyes every now and then. So thank you Britt and Neal, (and Kirsten and Glen) for flying Rachael and I out to Decorah, Iowa to photograph your wedding. I would have to say that this has been my favorite destination wedding so far, simply because Iowa surprised me with how stunningly beautiful she is. And the people in Decorah were amazingly down to earth and cool—and I won’t even mention your friends, who were a riot to hang with (special thanks to your friend with a breathalizer). Ahhhh…. good times at the Corner Bar.
Britt and Neal’s wedding ceremony was held at the cutest little Lutheran church out in the country amidst rolling hills and ripe fields of corn and soybeans. The colors were fantastic and there is something about the afternoon light in the mid-west that I couldn’t get enough of…. it was a beautiful, beautiful day with a beautiful, wonderful bunch of people. I am thankful for this experience….
Britt’s “Man of Honor”, Aaron was wonderful—he took his job very seriously and was clearly the guy for the job. He adores Britt…. you can see that in his face as he watches her prep for her wedding day.
I love the next series of images with Britt and her Father, Glen. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a father so in awe, and so proud of his daughter. He was quite emotional the entire weekend, but these next few images say it all….
Will you check out the light and color in this beautiful place? This field behind Britt was a field of soybeans. We actually went into the field, but grasshoppers were getting up Britt’s dress! wish I would have gotten a photo of her freaking out about that, but Britt is simply too chill and down to earth—she just lifted up the overlay of her dress and let them out.
After the ceremony, the wedding party and I hopped on a blue school bus to take us around to do some photos. And yes…. drink beer….
One of Neal’s groomsmen knew of this spot for photos—it is the private land of somebody that he knows from town. The family was gracious enough to let this wild wedding party out on to their lawn for some group shots. Check out those views!
The two guys in the blue shirts were the dudes that lived in the home—We gave them beer and they sat out and watched as we “played”. I bet they never thought they would spend their afternoon like this! They were great!
Britt and Neal actually met at the bar where this next image was taken—The Corner Bar. We spent a lot of time here hootin’ it up—it was only sensible to take a photo like this!
You might recognize this bubbly little couple from an engagement session I posted last spring—Courtney and Mark are unforgettable —-they are so fun to look at in photographs, because they are completely unaware of the camera, and totally enthralled with each other. This was a fun wedding to photograph because it was indoors at the Cherry Hills Community church (don’t get me wrong, I love outdoor ceremonies, but it’s fun to switch it up). I got to work with all sorts of fun lighting situations. This was also the first wedding that I played with a lens baby. The key here is moderation—I’ve seen this overused way too much!
Congratulations Courtney and Mark! And thank you for being the super cool couple that you are! ….. I hope to see some babies in the future. They’ll be beautiful
Sara and Gregg’s wedding in Keystone was traditionally and symbolically, a continuation of the wedding that took place back in January…. This was the second time that I had the honor of photographing Sara and Gregg’s wedding. The first ceremony took place at Sara’s parents home in City Park back on January 12th—it was truly the most intimate wedding that I have ever had the opportunity to photograph—I think there were all of twelve people there. Needless to say, I was very excited to get to reunite with these two families once again this fall, and participate in the continuation of this union—this time with all of their friends and family. I want to make note that Sara and Gregg have the greatest families—rarely do I get to work with two families who embrace each other like the Stracks and Seligs do—their support system is truly a treasure.
Thank you Sara and Gregg, for once again allowing me to play a part in this incredibly beautiful time in your lives…. you have truly taken a place in my heart and I wish you all the happiness and health that this life has to offer.
Let me first start out by staying that I don’t just make up nice things to say about my clients to make these posts sound more romantic or interesting. I think long and hard about what makes each wedding/union special and stand out from others so that each wedding post is as unique as the couple that I work with. That being said, I know that I often say in my posts, that “this couple is so in love”, or that “they belong together”, etc, etc. These things are true—and let’s hope so, because these are weddings that I am blogging, afterall.
However, there is something so amazing about the love between Julie and Ryan. I felt so completely hopeful and amazed by them that I actually left feeling like I wanted to fall in love all over again with my husband. This love that exists between Julie and Ryan is true and once in a lifetime and totally magic— seriously what girls dream of all their lives—- TRUE LOVE! The way they kissed each other and looked at each other and cried over how wowed they were with each other…. it was simply a fairytale wedding, and is a fairytale love.
To top it off, these are two of the most beautiful and kind people I have ever met. Julie is a sweetheart. Just a complete doll, and Ryan adores her. There are really no words to describe how much I loved being a part of this day. I actually think it may have changed my perspective of love forever. Truly.
…wow—hope these images can live up to this rave!
Julie and Ryan decided to see each other before the wedding to share a private moment. I love this when my couples let me share this moment with them, and allow me really key into the moment when the groom first sees his bride—Ryan’s reaction was, well, stunned.
Julie is actually clutching her heart here…. what emotion!
I love the emotion that spills out in these next two images…. Julie and Ryan could not hold back their tears.
….and joy!
I did not set up this shot—this was taken right after the wedding party recessional. Everybody was cheering and celebrating—-for good reason! Look at these two!
Carissa and Rich had a beautiful wedding the the Elk Ridge Ranch, just 20 minutes outside of Breckenridge. It’s hands down one of my favorite venues– not only because the views during the ceremony are simply breathtaking, but also because you feel like you’re on top of the world and away from everything else—-it’s quite intimate.
After the ceremony I drove Carissa and Rich down to a small lake for 10 minutes alone—I love this moment between the bride and the groom—it is the sweet spot for making images with true authenticity. Carissa and Rich just melted together and payed no attention to me…. which is exactly what I want when I’m shooting a wedding….
Sometimes an image can speak 1000 words…… I’ll let these do that, but if there is one thing I can say about Amy and John, it is that these two are the most adventurous, cool cats! They made me want to take a year off and travel the world with the man that I love—-and simply to live life to its fullest. As cliche as this sounds, Amy and John have found love and life in each other, and this I admire.
It was such a treat to get to work with the Bozarth’s again. I shot Nicole’s sister, Danielle’s wedding exactly a year earlier…. I think it’s quite adorable, actually that they share the same anniversary! It will certainly be easy for Diane and Howard to remember when to send out those cards!
Nicole and Jeff are two of the most genuine people. What you see is what you get from them—which is always kindness and warmth. Jeff seems fiercely loyal to his friends and family, and his love for Nicole radiates…. I love the last three images from this post—I think they speak more than any words that I put down here….
Check out this runway, yo! Diane, Nicole’s mother completely coordinated this wedding herself. I thought I had seen all the “bells and whistles” of a well coordinated and decorated event, but this runner takes the cake for the best one yet!
So I’m pretty sure that I have been officially banned from “Stonebrook Manor”. The managers were so offended at the way that I covered this wedding, that they actually came up to me and asked me if this were the last time that I would be shooting there.
Let me backtrack a bit…. Ashley and Dub are not the type of couple to take their photos posed formally on a landscaped bridge in the middle of Stonebrook Manor. That is not to say that there aren’t some beautiful aspects to Stonebrook, but when I get hired to capture the emotions, moods and personalities of a couple, I get full creative rights. Ashley and Dub preferred that we do their group formals across the street at at warehouse. If you look at the two of them, it was actually far more fitting. They are totally rock and roll, super laid back, and just damn cool! I think that Stonebrook just couldn’t grasp that we chose to do photos in front of dumpsters, instead of their gardens. They were probably mostly worried that these images would get out and that they would poorly represent the manor. However, I signed a contract with Ashely and Dub, not Stonebrook. It was one of my better “wedding party sessions”, and I loved that we did the tired “resevoir dogs” shot with the ladies, instead of the guys. There are only so many women who can really pull this shot off. Ashley and her girls rocked it!
One of the things that Ashely and Dub incorporated into their ceremony, was the drinking of life…. Each time they said a vow, the best man or the maid of honor would pour water into their glasses. When they were done withe their vows, they drank from “the cup”. Very cool, I thought. I also loved that Ashley put it down like a beer!
This was one of those weddings where I walked away feeling refreshed and ready to get through the rest of my season. It’s easy to get swept up into the work of it all, but for some reason with Shelby and James, I acted as though I was a guest and documented the wedding from that point of view. It was hands down the most emotional wedding of the season. Shelby cried all day—I’m such a sucker for emotions that are so strong, that they can only be manifested in tears—especially when the emotion is true love. Sappy, I know, but these emotions show that there truly is a gravity to the events of a wedding ceremomy.
I loved this wedding—loved the tears, the laughter, the decor, but I especially loved being a witness to such a great love story. Did I mention that Shelby is American and James is from Australia? There really is a great love story behind these images, that I just can’t even begin to get into… Too many events on my plate to edit and blog!
…Yep. That’s me. Shelby took this photo of Rachael and I right before the reception…. This is a very rare thing for me to do, (ask to have my photo taken) but I really just wanted to feel a part of things, so I asked her to take a shot of us with this Australian brew… I can be so needy sometimes!
I couldn’t stop smiling while I was going through Jen and Matt’s photos today…. I guess smiles are contagious. I don’t know if I’ve seen a happier bride—but not because she had the perfect lipstick or the flowers turned out beautifully, but because at just the mention of Matt’s name, Jen would grab her stomach and smile from ear to ear. I didn’t get the chance to know Jen and Matt as they booked me from out of state, but what even a complete stranger could see about these two, is that their love is solid and mature. And to top it off, they are two super cool individuals. Very grounded. Very empathetic. And very much full of life. Congratulations you guys!
How rad is Jen, for walking down in these?
Sometimes, as an artist I find myself in love with an image, but have no idea why. This is one of those images that I couldn’t stop looking at. I’m intrigued by it somehow—-It’s very pj and simple.
Jen, her brother and her dad all had to wait out in an aspen field while guests were being seated…. not a bad place for Jen to wait, and be with the other two men in her life. I thought it was precious.
Right as Jen and Matt’s little ring bearer was about to walk their dog down the aisle, “nature called”. All the guests got to see the “hold up”. Giggles were still sneaking out five minutes later from the guests. It was too funny.
This is my favorite image from the wedding, simply because there is such a great story behind it… Jen’s mother passed away a few years ago, which needless to say heightened the emotional and spiritual elements to the day… but right after the ceremony, Jen and Matt went up to the aspen grove for a few minutes alone. While they were walking though the woods, they found a random pink heart lying on the ground. What gives me chills and what makes this simple find so mystical, is that Sally, Jen’s mother used to collect heart shaped stones….
I really just want to know what is in the blue cooler….
This is just a sneak peak at Carly and Rob’s wedding. I plan on uploading about 30 more images and am officially going to make this wedding the new “featured wedding” on my website! I couldn’t even begin to narrow down the images to post on my blog! There was so much to photograph at this wedding—from the quirky venue, The Colorado Moutain Ranch and all the beautiful details, to all the emotion. And of course Carly and Rob had a kick ass party with a blue grass band and car bomb toasts! So, these images here will have to suffice for now, but please check out the featured wedding on my website to see more in a couple of weeks! I’m very excited to show off this wedding in all it’s glory. http://www.julieharrisweddings.com/#a=0&at=0&mi=2&pt=1&pi=10000&s=0&p=8
Carly and Rob, you are two of the coolest cats I’ve yet to work with–I love that we share a very similar taste in art, music, life and cocktails! I hope to see more of you in the near future (pixies in November)?!
Looovvveee Carly’s shoes!
There was this great sitting area upstairs at the Colorado Moutain Ranch with random images and fabulously bad furniture. I couldn’t resist doing some quirky shots in this room…
I was lucky to have captured this moment between Carly’s mom and brother, before they walked down the aisle. So sweet.
I love the expression on the groom’s face when he first sees his bride. Sometimes it’s tears, and sometimes it’s the intensity of trying to hold back the tears. In Rob’s case, it’s clearly the latter, which in my opinion is even more emotional.
It stared to rain during the ceremony—-and then it started to pour!
and it was very, very windy!
Another quirky shot in my favorite sitting area!
I love faces… especially when it’s the face of a cherished family member. This is Carly’s grandfather.
What can I say about Krissy and Andy that these images don’t show? They are probably the most fun loving couple I have ever worked with— seriously. Just take a look at their wedding party. It doesn’t surprise me that they each had 10 attendants, simply because I bet these two have so many friends, that they don’t even know what to do with them all–except party, of course! This was a couple that when I walked away from their wedding, I thought to myself, “I really want to be friends with these cats”! The reception was a riot and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a catering staff or venue coordinator so flustered by such a party! At one point, I even saw a book on fire!…. I don’t know what that was about.
Aside from the best party of the summer, Krissy and Andy also had a lovely, very intimate and well thought out ceremony that really catered to their personalities. Krissy, being catholic and Andy Jewish, they integrated traditions and proverbs that suited their union as two unique souls. I was very moved….
How rad is Krissy? I loved this Veil! There are only so many brides that could pull this off—Krissy was certainly one of them!
… and check out the shoes!
You’ve gotta love the Hora—it’s not always the easiest thing to photograph, but when you do get a shot—there is always drama and excitement!
Christina and Tyler are such a wonderful, unique, breath of fresh air couple…. Christina is about as fiery as her red hair, but sweet as they come, and Tyler is simply a riot. They are both fun loving and super laid back (they both walked down the aisle in flip flops). Their wedding was a hollarin’ celebration spent with many people who clearly love them dearly. I shot Kerri’s wedding (the sister of the bride) about two years ago, so I actually felt like part of their “inner-circle” which is always a perk…. They welcomed me in to partake of their celebrations and showed me a great evening of laughter and dancing at the Tapestry house in Fort Collins. Congratulations, Christina and Tyler!
I thought this image was so humorous, but it also shows the sweetness of Christina… Apparently an old friend rang her on her cell phone, right as Christina was about to put her dress on. Instead of Christina turning the phone off or handing it to a bridesmaid , she actually humored her friend and probably spent a good five minutes on the phone with her (As if she didn’t have anything better to do)! That’s just the kind of person Christina shows herself to be–it’s no matter that she was about to get dressed for her wedding day, a friend was calling, and she answered.
This image is very simple, but I love Christina’s mother doting on her in the background.
Instead of registering for gifts, Christina and Tyler asked that guest make a contribution to the human society—-super cool!
…and it’s always good to know that there are still smokers out there. I love this shot!
Kristen and Steve had the most romantic ceremony, straight out of Robin Hood or some other whimsical fairytale. The ceremony took place in the woods at 11am on a Sunday morning. There was singing, communion and beautiful, heartbreaking vows…. There was even a bagpiper! I couldn’t have dreamed up a better wedding for Kristi—it was simply perfect.
Kristi’s gown and hair was like a woodland fairy…. a little bohemian, and a little whimsical.
Kristen and Steve chose to see each other before the ceremony. I think this is such a lovely and intimate way for a bride and groom to “decompress” and prepare for the rest of the days events. It also makes for the most beautiful and emotional imagery.
I loved this moment between Steve and his mother.
I’m pretty sure that this kiss takes the cake for the most passionate of ceremony kisses!
I’m not really sure what was going on here, but I have a new picture for the “outtakes”! Everybody’s expression in the image is priceless… I’ll have to get the info on this one later!
I know that I am probably posting way too many images here, but I seriously couldn’t narrow these down—in fact, I think this may be my new feature wedding. I loved everything about this day—the ceremony, the ceremony site, Lauren’s dress, her hair, the music, the getaway car, and of course Lauren and Sean themselves. What a great pair! I really connected with these two and loved their vibe. Everything seemed calm and kismet with them. We had a good chunk of time after the ceremony to drive around in this great vintage caddy, and walk around in the woods. No pressure, no posing. It was exactly what I needed 1/2 way through my summer season—a refreshment. Congratulations you two! Can’t wait to party with you at your premier!
One of the most important shots of a wedding day is when the bride’s father sees her for the first time—this can sometimes be more emotional than the groom seeing the her for the first time—or just completely different. I love this shot of Lauren’s father, Bill as he walks in to her dressing room—he is stunned… and check out her sister’s expressions, too!
Lauren and Sean recessed down the aisle to one of my all time favorite tunes: “If you want to sing out, sing out!” by Cat Stevens.
I thought the wedding party was such a striking crowd—I was especially drawn to him.
Maybe it was because I was listening to Angelo Badlamente on the way up to Keystone, but this shot looks like something straight out of Twin Peaks…
…my favorite shot of the day.
I stole this shot from a distance away of Lauren and Sean practicing their first dance right before they were introduced. I thought it was very intimate.
Out of all the grooms who I’d expect to smash cake in their bride’s face, I never in a million years dreamed it would be Sean—I guess that’s why this image is one of my favorites—it was completely unexpected!
There’s not much to say about Katie and Adam that these images can’t convey—They are an amazing couple who were truly a match made in heaven. Katie lights up around Adam and Adam is so sweet and sensitive to Katie. I really had a great time at this wedding just watching the two of them interact and just “be” together. They are clearly two independent people but when together, seem so complete. Is that too simple and cliche of a desciption?? None the less, I hope I was able to capture (because that is what I do) their true love in the emotions of the ceremony and in the celebration of their union (which was a night full of great partying and dancing)!
I think this might be my favorite image from the day…. so much emotion that is about to spill over out of Katie. She’s really trying to hold it back!
I love this image too—-everybody is so ecstatic!
Chelsy and Phil tied the knot last Saturday at the Chateaux at Fox meadows. It was a hot, summer solstice ceremony with all the bells and whistles. Chelsy hired me to do this wedding back in 2006 so I’ve gotten to know these two a bit. Chelsy hates PDA–Public displays of affection, so it was quite humorous taking their engagement photos, and their wedding day couple photos! What do you do? Phil, on the other hand took things into his own hands and got some canoodling out of her! It was a riot—but they look like they’re having fun, and very much in love in all these shots, don’t they? And they clearly had a blast at their recception.
Congratulations, you two! You won’t have to kiss in front of me until your maternity photos! Hee hee!
Chelsy has the most gorgeous blue eyes—they are luminous and glow from across a room—she is also blessed with amazing lashes. She told me that she can’t curl her eyelashes, or she’ll get mascara in her eyebrows…. ahhhh poor girl!
Phil is a man in love. Look at the expression on his face when he first saw Chelsy step out of the manor—priceless!
The Chateaux at Fox meadows doesn’t have a lot of “nature” around it, so outdoor shots can be hard. There is a fountain out front and a couple in the back, but for the most part, the place is surrounded by subdivisions and a parking lot. I actually kind of liked this—not sure why! But I love this shot, with the homes in the background—it just feel so honest and journalistic.
I think this shot is sexy.
Chelsy loved her flowers… they were one of the most important things to her about the day.

Sarah and Simon’s wedding was a dream wedding for a photojournalist—to put it simply. The day was an emotional smorgasboard –there was laugher and tears from both the bride and groom, and what looked like every single guest present! I’m a sucker for moments that move people to tears–be it tenderness or a good old fashion roast, and I was completely in my element at this wedding. Sarah and Simon are two extraordinary people who love deeply–not only each other, but their friends and family, as well. They treated me as though we had known each other for years. I’m always blessed by this.
…And well, let’s be honest–I’ve been waiting for a shot of a bride and groom smoking a cigarette together for years…. I finally got this from Simon and Sarah. What a riot!
This image is more of a cautionary tale…. family portraits are not always easy to get through!
Check out the views from cocktail hour, and of course the amazing decor inside the Ritz Carlton ballroom—Sarah and Simon have some serious class!
Brooke and Bill were married last Friday at Ten Mile Station in Breckenridge, and I had the honor of being there to capture all the gorgeous, sweet moments that these two shared with each other and their guests. Brooke was beautiful—simply stunning. I drooled over her dress from Melissa Sweet and seriously would consider renewing my vows just to wear this spectacular gown. Classic and nostalgic, somehow.
Bill didn’t look to bad himself—although he warned me before that he abhors getting his photo taken, so I stuck to catching him in the moment. He’s so in love with Brooke that asking him to tear his eyes away from his lovely bride, would have been a shame. I loved the real emotion at this wedding. It’s so clear that Brook and Bill really love each other…. I walked away very happy and giddy for these two.
Brooke’s sister, Mo was a riot! I loved watching her all day—she really wears her heart on her sleeve…
not a cloud in the sky—and only about 75 degrees. Can you think of better conditions for a lovely mountain ceremony?
I love these next two shots. The first kiss is a “standard” shot that we all have to capture during the ceremony as photographers—but WOW! This is an extraordinarily hot kiss!
….now this is my idea of a “family formal”!
I thought this was a hilarious moment… where are these ladies? Europe?
Katie and Geoff tied the knot last Saturday and partied hard at the Ritz Carlton downtown! What a fun couple they are…. Katie is the sweetest, most caring bride I’ve ever met. She was far more concerned that everybody else was doing well and having a good time, than she was about making this “her day”. She was also all emotions! She was so happy all day and ready to marry Geoff that the mention of his name made her eyes swell with tears. I’m so happy for this couple—they really have it going on—and are truly, madly in love.
I love the emotion in Katie and Geoff’s parents in the next three shots. They both have such great families!
We were originally going for the traditional shot of the bride and groom looking through the window of the limo, but as they were getting in, Geoff stepped on Katie’s dress, tripping them both. I love this shot so much more than the planned.
Geoff is a good foot taller than Katie…. I had to show this in a photograph and I love the way it turned out! They are so adorable!
About a month ago I photographed Manjari and Sameer’s engagement photos. I loved the way they turned out because the colors were so vibrant…
If color is what I was looking for, then Manjari and Sameer’s wedding was their engagement shoot on crack! I was in a constant, color saturated alpha state! And of course, beyond the beautiful colors, I got to work with this beautiful couple again! Manjari took by breath away!
These two are such sweethearts and I loved being a part of this very important day. I learned a lot about Indian traditions and ceremonies—for example, the ceremony is 2 hours long and people are free to get up, walk around and drink punch. I also learned how important family is, which really tugged at my heart strings. I guess I have to say that Manjari and Sameer, and Manjari and Sameer’s wedding has been one of the highlights of my year thus far….
Indian women don’t go light on jewelry for their wedding ceremonies! I was in love with these bracelets—it made me want to play dress up again, and like a little girl, I was just staring at Manjari like she was a princess…
Classic moment of manjari’s first glimpse of her adorned daughter…
Sameer looked like a regal prince—it was strange for me to remember that his favorite band, like mine is Radiohead!
Simply stunning bride…..
