It’s been a long time since I’ve blogged a senior portrait. And I can’t believe I’m even saying this, but I’ve actually really enjoyed them this season. I’m only being contacted by seniors who want something outside the box and they have all been gracious enough to let me play. I love working with different personalities. And Anuhya–beautiful, slightly edgy but shy, is also into photography and her style was perfect for an anti-cliche senior picture, fashion shoot in downtown Denver.
Man, oh man! Isn’t she a knock out?! Lydia is from Minneapolis and came all the way to me to have her senior portraits taken… well, not really all the way just to see me. But she did choose to have me photograph her while she was out visiting, and that, I am honored by! Lydia is a true beauty–and such a sweet girl!! Some girls have it all. Sigh.
Thanks, Lydia! I hope through these pictures, you can take a piece of Denver back home with you to Minneapolis…
I only wish that I was as cool as Nicole is back when I was in high school. Her originality and eye for the arts transcends mosts 18 year olds… and did I mention that she is the biggest sweetheart ever? Stellar girl! We met up a month or so before her shoot to look at a bunch of vintage fashion magazines and books of portraits and Nicole decided that she wanted to do her senior photos kind of vintage and Audrey Hepburn. She really didn’t want to do “tree” photos! It was really refreshing and fun to work with this idea in mind…. we spent the afternoon in Potter highlands—my hood!

I love this senior session! It doesn't scream senior at all. She will love these forever!
(08.30.2011)Those turned out grea!
(08.31.2011)Nothing quite makes my day like a new post from you. I love anti-senior portraits as well and these are beautiful, as usual. =)
(09.01.2011)That one with her reflection in the mirror is just stunning. What a beautiful subject!
(09.02.2011)And by mirror I meant window. :)
(09.06.2011)love these Julie!!!
(09.07.2011)Great job Julie!
(09.13.2011)When the eyes can tell a story, words aren't needed. Very nice images!
(09.14.2011)Great shots, you can actually see her open up for the camera just a little bit with each photo... I'm new to the Denver area and you're the first photographer to "check out"
(09.15.2011)Edgy and cool. Certainly anti-senior pictures. No cheese whatsoever.
(09.15.2011)Julie ... I am so impressed by your work. This "anti-senior portrait" series is far superior to anything I've ever seen. I especially love the portrait of Anuhya with her reflection in the window. Brilliant way to blow away all conventional, boring composition theories. Yea for both you and Anuhya !!!
(09.17.2011)Beautiful! I would have killed to have senior pics like these.
