Photography Blog | The Life and Times of Julie Harris Photo Blog | Photography Blogs. Welcome! This is where I show my work and write about what stirs me. Mary Ellen Mark says, "Reality is always extraordinary". I live by this. I'm a documentary photographer with a thirst for love, life and truth... a true bohemian at heart. In an industry saturated with trendy processing techniques and emphasis on style instead of substance, I strive to make honest images that are full of emotion and reality. I know, I know…. I said I wasn’t taking any more shoots until my little nugget arrives, but I met Jessica and Tim in my natural childbirth class and after getting to know them a little bit, I was really excited to get my camera on this family of 4–errr 5. Jessica and Tim are due a week after Jesse and I, and are having a little boy. The shoot was so easy because conversation flowed as Jessica and I shared our fears, excitements, and wonders over what the next few weeks will bring. It was nice. We did the shoot at their home Sunday morning over coffee (they own and operate CODA coffee and I was relieved to hear that Jessica also has been drinking coffee her entire pregnancy). I learned early on in class that Jessica and Tim’s pups, Whiskey and Boot are very important to them, so of course we incorporated them in the session as well. It was a perfect shoot of a day in the life of Jessica, Tim and their little baby boy in the oven.
Alex and Matt were the darlings of my season… total, adorable cutie pies who not only had one of the most heart felt ceremonies, but had one of the best dance parties to boot. Alex is simply beautiful–on the inside and out. Her bubbly personality and contagious giggle are just two things that make her shine. Just thinking about her now is making me grin. Matt is a tender sweetie who adores his beautiful lady and can also throw down some dance moves. This wedding tops the charts as one of my favorite of the season….
I wouldn’t hesitate to say that my very favorite thing to photograph is documentary style family photos, if all of my clients were like the Sperry’s. This family has been one of my regulars since Malia was pregnant with her first, and they continue to welcome me into their home every year to document a day in their life. It’s relaxed, fun, the kids are spontaneous and love showing me their rooms and toys and in this case, Halloween costumes… What a treat.

Three words.......I LOVE THIS.
(12.20.2011)The pictures are beautiful, but on a side note... I love that you referred to your baby as your little nugget... we have our own nugget and called her that from the day of our very first ultrasound when the doctor referred to her as a little nugget. Anyway, love it all :).
(12.20.2011)My favorite is the third one from the top. I LOVE how you captured Jessica's expression along with the light coming in at the top. It's almost like the like is coming through bringing forth the life of her unborn child. Simply beautiful.
(12.30.2011)Love these Julie!
