Photography Blog | The Life and Times of Julie Harris Photo Blog | Photography Blogs. Welcome! This is where I show my work and write about what stirs me. Mary Ellen Mark says, "Reality is always extraordinary". I live by this. I'm a documentary photographer with a thirst for love, life and truth... a true bohemian at heart. In an industry saturated with trendy processing techniques and emphasis on style instead of substance, I strive to make honest images that are full of emotion and reality. There is such a sweetness and authenticity to Tiffany and Ike—-I can’t even explain it. When I walked into the bridal suite at Lionscrest manor, Tiffany welcomed me with the kindest smile and big hug, as if it were my day, not hers. Both Tiffany and Ike made me feel as though I was an old friend—and this I always appreciate as “the work”. I know I say it a lot, but I shoot a lot of weddings so I see a lot of love floating around. Seriously though—Tiffany and Ike are made for one another. They are gifts from God to one another. I love how, when they are with eachother, they seem at home. Photographing Tiffany and Ike’s wedding was cake—All the emotion and love was there, I just had to release my shutter….
Tiffany and Ike decided to see each other before the wedding. I always love this because it lends itself to a few private moments before all the hoopla, for the bride and groom to simply breathe and be present in the moment. I can’t stop looking at this image of Ike, anticipating the first glimpse of his bride…. There’s just something in his expression that draws me in.
…and I love Tiffany’s mom’s reaction to this moment.
It pretty much poured for an hour before the ceremony–we weren’t sure whether the ceremony would be indoors or out. I think Tiffany hoped that the rain would clear up.
And the rain did clear up! Tiffany and Ike were able to make their vows under clear, Colorado blue skies!
Ok—so I’m generally not the photographer who makes my clients, “jump” for a portrait. Unless of course, I just need to get them moving to have some fun. I couldn’t resisit with this wedding party—-they simply weren’t the kind of cats that wanted to stand still for a “portrait”. I love this image because it’s quirky. A couple of the girls look as if they have no legs and the sky is such an erie color. This may be pushing it, but it reminds me of something out of a Tim Burton movie—a bit sureal, even.
Ah, the toasts—-they are always good for a good laugh, or cry—and of course some embarrasing moments!
Meet my sister in law, Janna, her fiance, Josh and my precious, fireball niece, Madeline (or as I like to call her, boom-boom). Janna and Josh are finally tying the knot on the 7th of August! I’m so happy for them, and of course for Maddie who absolutely adores Josh and now has a “daddy”. Janna and Josh are happy in love and have one of those stories that could make a movie…. I’ll save this for their wedding post!
Janna and Josh—You’ve heard the Irish blessing, “May the saddest day of your future be no worse than the happiest day of your past”…. This is my prayer for you. I believe that you are going to fall deeper in deeper in love with each day—with each other, and as a family. I love you guys!
Ellie, the elephant that Maddie’s constantly clutching, is the gift that Jesse and I gave her at the hospital the day she was born, 5 years ago. I’m so honored that it’s her favorite toy.
Hannah and Erik are engaged and are getting married in October. They are one of the couples whose wedding I have been looking forward to for over a year, because they have such a wonderful story– I know their wedding day will be full of emotions and celebration. Erik and Hannah are in the service and Erik has been serving in Iraq for the last 2 years. I had the pleasure of actually getting to meet him during his short visit, to do these engagement photos, and I feel so honored that they actually fit me into what I’m sure is a very busy schedule of making rounds and spending time with the people they love. I can’t imagine not being able to be with the person I love everyday. I take that for granted. Hannah and Erik’s time together is precious, and I hope that this shows in these images… There seems to be a “peace” when they are in each other’s arms.
I am so lucky and blessed to get to work with amazing people, like Hannah and Erik and am so grateful to them for the great sacrifices that they make for our country. I am really looking forward to working with them again this fall and getting to know them even better…
