While I will be sad to see my old space go, I am proud and excited to announce that I will be moving my studio. Jesse and I purchased our first commercial property—a storefront boutique a block down from our home in the old Weir building. We share a lot with Anna be, Duo and Gallop. Great synergy, we think!! We will obviously be having a huge grand opening party, as well as hosting some other fantastic events, so stay tuned to the blog for future details. For now, here are some photos of the bare bones of the space (and a few shots of my old space)—we plan on doing some pretty exciting renovations along with some new surprises.
On another note—this new space will require that I have a personal assistant. I’m calling for applications and plan on spending the most of next week interviewing. If any of you would be interested in taking on a personal assistant role, or know anybody that might be interested in working with me, shoot me an email to: Julie@julieharrisphotography.com.
farewell 2226 W 29th…. I will miss you
Introducing the new Julie Harris Photography Boutique at 2405 W 32nd Ave….
I had another great maternity shoot yesterday (there must be some sort of baby boom going on)! The Pearsons were super laid back and fun—as you can see by the body art! We tried to do some family portraits with the boys gazing lovingly at Momma’s pregnant belly, but there are just some things that one can’t fake… While the boys are very excited about a new baby brother, they weren’t as excited at the idea of sitting still and taking photos….how boring! So we did what we could, and because Brayden is a little Picasso, we decided that the only way we could get his attention away from his canvas was to create a new one on the belly of his Mom. What followed was fun family art time and everybody ended up with colorful bellies! It was a riot! And a fresh way for me to capture this special time in this family’s life.
I love this authentic moment of Owen loving on his Momma’s tummy….
Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, My morning jacket, and maybe even Weezer …. These are just a few that I might compare Blitzen Trapper’s sound to. But honestly I couldn’t make a “comparison” with this band—I simply stood back, snapped a few shots and enjoyed the diversity of the music. And it was quite entertaining to see what kind of innovative instruments this sextet pulled out of their hats—toy flutes, seed pods, and yes, even a beer bottle! It was a fantastic show and I was super excited to be able to see this band so “up close and personal”, thanks to a good friend who put me on the “list.”
Alela Diane opened for Blitzen Trapper and also kicked ass! I’ll be checking out some more of her music, for sure! I loved that her Dad plays the guitar in the band, and that the bassist rocks a felt hat with a feather. I also appreciated the “Gold Dust Woman” cover that Erik Menteer and Brian Koch of Blitzen Trapper joined in on….
Eric Earley dropped his cow bell during the last song, so he improvised by blowing over a beer bottle. Awesome!

Congrats to both of you. I'll have to stop by the next time I'm down there.
