Photography Blog | The Life and Times of Julie Harris Photo Blog | Photography Blogs. Welcome! This is where I show my work and write about what stirs me. Mary Ellen Mark says, "Reality is always extraordinary". I live by this. I'm a documentary photographer with a thirst for love, life and truth... a true bohemian at heart. In an industry saturated with trendy processing techniques and emphasis on style instead of substance, I strive to make honest images that are full of emotion and reality. Meet sweet baby, Shelby. I have had the opportunity to work with the Mitchell’s throughout Shelby’s life, starting with Nicole’s maternity session last summer. Now this precious baby girl is 6 months old and I’m loving watching her grow! She is almost exactly 3 months older than my Ramona, so I get to see what fun I have to look forward to. Looks like I’ll see more smiles and laughing, some sitting, and an overall more alert baby. Shelby’s little personality shines–I’m learning that babies are truly, complete little humans. And this little bean is yummy all around. I can’t wait to visit and photographer her again at 9 months. Stay tuned…
Oh my goodness, so much fun!!! Three families got together and put a party on for their 1 year-old boys, Jones, Silas and Sadler. And it was a RIOT! I had such a great time photographing this event in a documentary style. The babes all had such strong personalities and it cracked me up that they technically had no idea what was going on. A first birthday party is so much more for the parents than it is for the little guys, but it’s certainly a celebration to be had, none the less. Enjoy glimpses of these guys quirky little personalities….and of course their reactions to their first cupcake.
I thought it would be fun to post these two sessions together. A before and after, if you will… Eric and Elissa have become great friend of mine. I met them when Eric hired me to photograph them paparazzi style when he proposed to Elissa at Chautauqua park. That was back in 2008. Here they are today, a beautiful family with two dogs and a sweet newborn named Shira. It is such an honor to get to photograph these times in my clients lives.. I really get to capture some intimate moments. And for those of you who are freaked out by breastfeeding shots, or who think that it should be private, get over it. Breastfeeding is one of the most natural aspects of motherhood. I’ve heard that it takes seeing a woman breastfeeding 6 different times for it to sink in and become “natural” to someone who has otherwise not been exposed to breastfeeding. So I’m determined to not only be the photographer who isn’t scared to post breastfeeding on my blog, but I also want to show it for what it is. Beautiful. Natural. Wonderful.
