Photography Blog | The Life and Times of Julie Harris Photo Blog | Photography Blogs. Welcome! This is where I show my work and write about what stirs me. Mary Ellen Mark says, "Reality is always extraordinary". I live by this. I'm a documentary photographer with a thirst for love, life and truth... a true bohemian at heart. In an industry saturated with trendy processing techniques and emphasis on style instead of substance, I strive to make honest images that are full of emotion and reality. I had the pleasure of working with Ilene and Ali yesterday at the Sanctuary in Castle Pines. This was not an elopement…. Ilene called me and asked if I would re-shoot her wedding pictures. They had hired a friend to shoot their wedding back in August and didn’t have any formals that they were happy with. And while this isn’t usually my thing ( I generally like to be documenting, the “real deal” with all the emotions and hoopla) , there was something about Ilene’s voice in her inquiry that made me really excited to do this non-bridal for them. I’m so happy that I took this job! I had so much fun with these two, and despite the fact that these images weren’t done on their “wedding day”, the shoot certainly didn’t lack emotion… Ilene and Ali are very much in love and it was a blast documenting them in a more relaxed way. They seemed to have a lot of fun together while doing the shoot and I hope that I was able to capture the love and playfulness that exists in their relationship. Congratulations, Ilene and Ali (much belated)!
Ummm…. hello! Ilene is gorgeous! I really think she should model—in fact, if she weren’t moving to Dubai, I’d be calling her for some of my personal “edge” shoots!
This last shot was really fun! We had pretty much done all those “formals” that they needed, so I told them to just “pose” for me—do what they wanted! This is what Ali came up with, and I loved it! So natural and adorable!
It’s a pity that I didn’t get to spend more time with Krista and Greg. We met for the first time on Saturday, but I know that I would have loved to have formed a relationship with them over this last year of wedding planning, had they been here in Colorado. Krista is a cute bubbly girl who just beams from ear to ear and seems to burst into giggle at just the right moment, and Greg is a dapper, sensitive guy who clearly adores his new bride. This was one of those weddings where I didn’t have to do much…. I just let them go in a field at Chautauqua and just snapped away. The wedding was a perfect mix of both worlds with the ceremony held at The cathedral of immaculate conception on Colfax and the reception at the Rembrandt Yard in Boulder. We also sprinkled in some time at Chautauqua park for some fun “Colorado” images.
Jessica, the sweet little flower girl screamed her way down the aisle. It was really cute actually—she is right at that age where she doesn’t want to leave mommy’s side, and her mommy happened to walk down right before her. Bless her little heart!
I adored Kara, Krista’s maid of honor. She was a ball of emotions all day—and such a tenderheart!
I love this image…. there is something so sober about it.
I’m generally not much of a “detail” photographer, but I couldn’t get enough of the yummy blues and oranges at Krista and Greg’s reception. Everything was so springy and fresh—from the fruit and veggi arrangements to the gorgeous (and tasty) blueberry martinis… Did I mention that my favorite flowers happen to be orange tulips?
I always find it sort of funny when the entire bridal party is introduced before the bride and groom into the reception. But wow! This party really put on a show as they entered . I was loving it!
Krista and Greg didn’t need to put on a show—they were the show. Aren’t they stunning?!
This may have been one of the best getaways that I’ve yet to witness! Krista’s sister, Karen pulled up in a pedicab and took the couple away—in a uniform and all! It was a perfect and fun way to end the day.
I knew I liked Katie the minute she walked through my door last fall in her cute little shoes…. she was so bright eyed and excited about her engagement to Geoff….
Today, I got to meet Geoff and I couldn’t be more thrilled about working with these two! They have so much fun with each other and couldn’t be a better fit. (Although Geoff is a good foot taller than Katie)!
We started out our shoot bowling at lucky strike and ended up in a parking garage…. It was so much fun!
We basically ran out of light and ended up in a parking garage because that was the only place I could find enough ambient light to really shoot anything of interest. We seriously spent like an hour in there! It was great! Have I mentioned how much I love my D3??? I took all these these shots at 12500 ISO without a flash!

Love this pictures, love your job ;-) I'm happy to know you and meet you in France, I hope that we will still have the occasion of shooting together ! Great pictures !
