As some of you may know, my husband, Jesse, is the founder of an awesome photographers’ directory called photographik. They just launched their first ever Wedding Photography GiveAway! The winner of the contest will win $1500 towards their wedding photogaphy package from the photographer of their choice (the photographer must be a member of photographik, of course!).

The theme of the contest is creative, fun, and/or romantic engagement stories. Only engaged couples who are getting married after December 15th, 2008 qualify for the contest. As Jesse’s wife, I, unfortunately, am not eligible to win. However, I’ve come up with my own little workaround. To any of my couples who are getting married in 2009, I will give you $750 off your wedding package if your entry finishes in the top 5.

For more information, click on the banner above or head out to this page.

And for all of my former brides and other clients, tell all your friends about this great contest! I can’t wait to read some of the stories. Blog it if you have a blog, etc. I think this is going to be a lot of fun!

Ciao,

Julie

Farrah and Mike
August 29 | 2008

I already knew Mike from doing some corporate photography for his company Stratavia but was super excited when he asked me to do his engagement photos….  What Mike didn’t realize, is that there would be much more involvement here with this shoot, than with the typical office photojournalism…. hee hee!  It was a good time though, and so great to meet Farrah, his stunning fiancee.  We started the shoot at the St Julian where we had a couple of cocktails (actually, beer for the ladies and Mike had a cocktail) and then went over to the Boulder creek to take in the beauty and heart of my old home town….  Check out the colors!  Wow!

I love this guy!
August 25 | 2008

….No, he is not my husband.  I was actually editing a wedding about 2 minutes ago and found this image.  I had to stop what I was doing and pay a little tribute to all those “uncle bobs” out there who have an undying  appreciation for photography.  I’m really not even being sarcastic.  I get a kick out of the small things in life!

Great shot, and a great thought. You're so right. Professionals, and many who aspire to be, sometimes seem to take a snooty attitude toward photography enthusiasts who just enjoy the sheer thrill of trying to capture images for themselves, friends and family. That enthusiasm should be applauded, not scoffed at as so many photography snobs do! (Of course, I'm objective about this...except for the fact that I'm one of those people!) Those people we curse at under our breath at an event for getting in the way, or distracting our subjects, are also someone's uncle or aunt, and when our little camera circus is long gone, they're still family or friends, and who are we to grumble? Of course, if you're a true pro, and being paid, you don't want folks keeping you from getting the shots you're being paid to capture, but a soft touch is so much more powerful than rudeness or visible irritation (which I've seen on plenty of occasions. Julie, I get the feeling you're one of those pros that actually appreciates a dumb question from Uncle Bob about your lens or some camera setting. For those of us who aspire, that moment means more than you can know. Thanks for the post!

Yeah, I am kind of one of those people. BUT I do have sense enough to stay out of the way of the "real" photographer at any wedding I attend. I love this picture though, it makes me laugh and wonder how goofy I look when I am getting snap happy.
