Photography Blog | The Life and Times of Julie Harris Photo Blog | Photography Blogs. Welcome! This is where I show my work and write about what stirs me. Mary Ellen Mark says, "Reality is always extraordinary". I live by this. I'm a documentary photographer with a thirst for love, life and truth... a true bohemian at heart. I know, I know…. I said I wasn’t taking any more shoots until my little nugget arrives, but I met Jessica and Tim in my natural childbirth class and after getting to know them a little bit, I was really excited to get my camera on this family of 4–errr 5. Jessica and Tim are due a week after Jesse and I, and are having a little boy. The shoot was so easy because conversation flowed as Jessica and I shared our fears, excitements, and wonders over what the next few weeks will bring. It was nice. We did the shoot at their home Sunday morning over coffee (they own and operate CODA coffee and I was relieved to hear that Jessica also has been drinking coffee her entire pregnancy). I learned early on in class that Jessica and Tim’s pups, Whiskey and Boot are very important to them, so of course we incorporated them in the session as well. It was a perfect shoot of a day in the life of Jessica, Tim and their little baby boy in the oven.
I have a new found appreciation for maternity portraits. This time in a families life is truly a special one–there is so much excitement and anticipation around carrying a baby and then bringing one home. It’s also insane what the female body can do and photographing it is pretty amazing. Nicole and Eric were gracious enough to invite me to their home to photograph a “day in their life”. I approached this pregnant mama with reverence and asked a million questions, knowing that I too, will soon be experiencing what she is. It’s a miracle.
I can’t think of a better couple to be bringing a child into this world. Aubrey and Kirk are truly exceptional people whose joy is infectious and who are madly in love–with each other and with life. They were darlings to work with and I was reminded why I love what I do so much. I’m very excited to meet their little boy when he is born and am hoping to hang out with the three of them at Boulder cafe over martinis and crab legs. (Really, guys. I’m holding you to that!)

Three words.......I LOVE THIS.
(12.20.2011)The pictures are beautiful, but on a side note... I love that you referred to your baby as your little nugget... we have our own nugget and called her that from the day of our very first ultrasound when the doctor referred to her as a little nugget. Anyway, love it all :).
(12.20.2011)My favorite is the third one from the top. I LOVE how you captured Jessica's expression along with the light coming in at the top. It's almost like the like is coming through bringing forth the life of her unborn child. Simply beautiful.
(12.30.2011)Love these Julie!
