Photography Blog | The Life and Times of Julie Harris Photo Blog | Photography Blogs. Welcome! This is where I show my work and write about what stirs me. Mary Ellen Mark says, "Reality is always extraordinary". I live by this. I'm a documentary photographer with a thirst for love, life and truth... a true bohemian at heart. In an industry saturated with trendy processing techniques and emphasis on style instead of substance, I strive to make honest images that are full of emotion and reality. One of Jamie’s only requests during this shoot, is that I get a shot of her bumble bee slippers on the hexagonal tile in the bathroom. See, Jamie sees herself as a bumble bee because bumble bees by nature are miraculous. Although their bodies are proportionately far too large for their wings, bumble bees somehow lift themselves off the ground and fly. The reason Jamie is like a bumble bee, is because 10 years ago she was diagnosed with progressive ovarian cancer and was given a 7% change of living. She, like the bumble bee is a miracle—alive and soaring with life!
It was such an honor to work with one of the most beautiful women I have ever photographed. Jamie is truly stunning on the inside and out, and her valor inspires me beyond words. How can one capture this on film? I’m humbly posting these images, not because I am a rock star photographer but because Jamie’s story is one that everybody should hear, and she is a woman whom every girl should aspire to be like….
I had to post a few images of the way that Jamie has chosen to showcase and archive her images. She had them custom matted and put into a small cypress presentation box. I think this is so classy–and a such a beautiful gift for her husband (and herself).
p>So it took me two weeks to get back to this post, but that is because I’ve been working hard on the prize! Actually as cliche as this sounds, everybody that participated in this little contest is a winner. Do you honestly think that I take myself so seriously that I would pick the best love song cover?? (I wanted to sing a cover of Heart’s, “Alone” and to my dismay it was apparently covered on American Idol last week. That tells you about how cool I am).
In all honesty though, I wanted to learn something about some of my blog readers out there—music choice says a lot about personalities, don’t you think? And of course the main reason for the contest is so I could have an excuse to make a new mix CD!
So to those of you who participated –thank you!! And please get back to me with your mailing address so I can get you a copy of my fabulous new cover project!

Awww, man, I wanted to see the bumble bee slippers. She is a beautiful woman, what an amazing story! The photos are simply stunning Julie!
(03.04.2009)Your photography is so inspiring. I had a few questions. Which do use most, manual or priority modes for the majority of your shooting? Also, what is your process for the borders on the final images? Where do they come from? Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you.
