Photography Blog | The Life and Times of Julie Harris Photo Blog | Photography Blogs. Welcome! This is where I show my work and write about what stirs me. Mary Ellen Mark says, "Reality is always extraordinary". I live by this. I'm a documentary photographer with a thirst for love, life and truth... a true bohemian at heart. In an industry saturated with trendy processing techniques and emphasis on style instead of substance, I strive to make honest images that are full of emotion and reality. I decided that it may not be appropriate to post a bunch of nudes out there on my very public blog—-especially when those nudes are placed right below or above a sentimental wedding ceremony. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think there is anything to be ashamed of when it comes to the human body, I’ve just given this category a new home…. Julie Harris Edge : www.julieharrisedge.wordpress.com
Check out my latest and greatest—-if you dare….
I went out to a couple of hotels on Federal and did a very dark, Nan Goldin meets Helmut Newton shoot, just for me. Enjoy!

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Rebekah Fuller—the most kick ass hair stylist out there… seriously! (Check her out at flirt Salon on Old South Gaylord). Rebekah wanted some images for a portfolio piece that she is putting together, so I told her I’d give it a whirl. We all met at my studio and had a glass of wine while Rebekah cut, blow dried, and styled the hair. I have never done a hair shoot before and didn’t really know what to expect, but I just kind of did my thing, while trying to “key in” on the hair. I loved the models—and of course their hair was amazing too…
Check out Lillian’s super chic bob. I love this cut on a mature woman–it frames her bones so well, too.
I’m currently trying to grow my hair out a bit so that I can have this cut that Lillian Jr. has—I love all the layers—and again—perfect framing for her face.
…And how rad is Caitlyn’s hair? I could have photographed her all day—she’s got that edge!
And this is the lovely Rebekah—we didn’t take this photo yesterday, but I thought I should put a face with the name. She’s truly a rock star!
This is the way I like to shoot family portraits! I had so much fun photographing this family (I think there were something like 18, all in all but who was counting). I was a little nervous about the expectations that this family had going into the shoot. I had talked to them beforehand and said that I really don’t do “family reunions” or “formal family portraits”. They assured me that they didn’t want formals, but 9 times out of 10 people think they don’t want “formals”, and then there is all this stress and pressure during the shoot to get everyone (yes even the dog) to sit still and smile for the camera. But this family truly had fun with the session which was very refreshing. I felt like I was doing what I was gifted to do with my profession… stand back, let them play and simply document the love. Thanks, Kimberly for trusting me to “do my thing”.
The “Original Kelly’s” are four sisters and their Father. The rest of the clan was all of their spouses and children. One of the sisters was about 45 minutes late to the shoot, which would have generally frustrated me, but it actually gave me more time to stand back and get some great candids. This is a shot of Kimberly and Leslie—the first of the sisters to arrive. I got this shot while they were hanging out waiting for everybody else to show up…
This is Erica (Leslie’s daughter) and Jaden (Kimberly’s daughter) spending some one and one time together. Leslie and her family live in Seattle, so the cousins don’t get to see much of each other..
These are the 4 beautiful sisters (and matriarchs).
... and all of the cousins.
