Photography Blog | The Life and Times of Julie Harris Photo Blog | Photography Blogs. Welcome! This is where I show my work and write about what stirs me. Mary Ellen Mark says, "Reality is always extraordinary". I live by this. I'm a documentary photographer with a thirst for love, life and truth... a true bohemian at heart. In an industry saturated with trendy processing techniques and emphasis on style instead of substance, I strive to make honest images that are full of emotion and reality. This may be the shortest blog post ever, but did everyone but me know that the amazing Sylvia Plachy is the mother of Adrien Brody? I just found this out. My respect for Adrien just went way up—funny how a family tree can do that! Check out some of her pics via the link below…. (THIS IS NOT MY WORK—KINDA WISH IT WERE THOUGH). I just wanted to share this small piece of trivia with you as well as highlight one of my favorite current artists. http://images.google.com/images?q=sylvia+plachy&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=lR8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=images&ct=title
What a smokin’ couple! I may be a little biased because Christa is my sister in law, but these two cats make a gorgeous couple, don’t they? They aren’t engaged, but Christa is going to Spain next week to study abroad and won’t see her Joele for months, so I did this shoot for them so that they have something to smile at on the mantel everyday!
Well, today I turned 30, and it’s a very strange thing— despite all the hoorah about this being a big one, I don’t feel a day older than 19! I still think it’s bizarre when I don’t get Id’d to get into bars, and I can’t believe that I am starting to get crow’s feet under my eyes (I chalk it up to squinting through the camera)!
I had such a lovely day though—people have just lavished me with wonderful gifts, words of affirmation and love. My mom took me to Anthropologie and seriously spent an extravagant amount of money on me, and then we went to this great little boutique and she practically furnished my entire new studio (pics coming soon)!!!
Last night I celebrated my birthday with my parents and my Grandma Nonie (who’s birthday is on the 2nd–she’s still a young 70 something). We went to D’Napoli’s in Boulder and ate wonderfully fattening lasagna, and then sat in front of my Dad’s computer eating cake looking at these pics below. They are of me as a baby! My dad scanned them to a CD as a birthday gift—ones that I had never seen before! It was such a wonderful suprise. I teared up more than once. Strange– I can’t believe I’m looking at photos of me and that they are 30 years old!!
Anyhow, I owe so much of this year’s happiness to all of my friends and family– I can’t believe how blessed I am. Thank you!
This is the image that made me tear up…. look how sweet my dad is—-and now I know where I get my hippie streak!
If I’ve ever had body issues it is because I may have been the fattest baby in history! And people would never stop laughing about it. I’m pretty sure I needed a bigger bra size than I do now!!
I love this image my dad took…. I get my eye from him! Plus this images still sums me up as a voracious reader.
